Just when you thought we were done with the rain showers in Hell’s Kitchen, water was seen spraying out of a window at The Ellery, a new mixed-use development at 312 W43rd St in Hell’s Kitchen around noon today.

Water cascades from The Ellery on W42nd Street over to W43rd Street between 8/9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen.

In photos and video captured by W42ST, what appear to be two large hoses are pointed out of an open window on the 22nd floor. The deluge lasted for around 30 minutes making those traversing the block between 8th and 9th Ave feel like they were on the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls rather than steps away from Times Square. Where’s a poncho when you need one?

FDNY responded to a report of a leak in the building and said there were no injuries.

Food writer Michael Munoz, who lives across the street, told us: “I’ve lived in New York my entire life and in this neighborhood for 15 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. It was the new W43rd Street waterfall!”

Hell’s Kitchen folk are accustomed to seeing strange things falling from the sky. In July 2023 a construction crane at 550 10th Ave, just two blocks away, caught fire and caused injuries when the crane’s boom and 16-ton load collapsed onto the street below.

A spokesperson for Taconic, the building’s developer, told us this afternoon: “A routine fire pump test was performed under city agency supervision today at the building, and water was directed within the confines of the property.”
