Cloud cover permitting, real-life stars will get their chance to shine tomorrow — and just days after a spectacular Pink full moon, there’s no doubt as to which planet will steal the show.

Cast your eyes skywards as Intrepid Museum launches a new season of Free Fridays, with Tim Straube, deputy manager of APS for NASA’s Orion spacecraft leading an Astro Live discussion on NASA’s work to return humans to the Moon under the Artemis campaign.

Local astronomers will be on hand to help visitors navigate the night sky and answer questions about astronomy and stargazing. You’re welcome to bring along your own binoculars or look through the high-powered telescopes of the experts.

American Sign Language interpretation will be available for the Astro Live and the Museum demonstrations as well as for telescope viewing on the flight deck.

Doors open prompt at 5pm, with last entry at 8:30pm (doors are subject to close earlier, entry is not guaranteed). All visitors must enter through the Welcome Center to receive a ticket prior to entering the Museum.

While you’re there, be sure to visit Intrepid’s new temporary exhibition, Apollo: When We Went to the Moon, which highlights the remarkable history of humanity’s voyage beyond our home planet, and the extraordinary individuals who made it happen.

If you can’t make it this time, there are more Free Fridays planned for June 28, July 26, August 23 and September 27.

  1. While appreciate that a bunch of museums are offering free Friday evenings, seems that mostly benefits Manhattan residents who live nearby (tend to be affluent) or tourists – groups that could afford to pay.

Low income families in the Bronx for example not in a position to schlep in on Friday evening.

  2. I loved it!!!! It was so fun & it’s a huge museum! I live locally in the Manhattan, New York City area but it was my first time going to the Intrepid!!!! I will always cherish the fun & exciting well detailed displays experience that I had there on April 26, 2024!
