In Hell’s Kitchen, a sure-fire sign that summer is on the way is the return to the Hudson of North River Lobster Company, sailing from Pier 81 on 12th Avenue and W41st Street — but as all New Yorkers know, you can never rely on the weather!

A dismal forecast on Thursday meant that the popular floating lobster and seafood restaurant had to postpone the start of its 10th season on the water. Instead, the party kicked off on Friday, with seafood lovers delighting in the opportunity to enjoy fresh Maine lobster rolls, seafood platters, burgers, shareable appetizers and signature cocktails while taking in the stunning sights of New York City.

Also launching this season is a new loyalty program — and the good news for the neighborhood is that anyone living or working near Pier 81 will qualify for the Season Pass Club and receive free boarding all season and a free drink the week of their birthday or half birthday.

“We can officially consider North River Lobster Company a New Yorker as we enter into our 10th season and look forward to celebrating this exciting milestone,” said Craig Kanarick, Chief Executive Officer of New York Cruise Lines, Inc. “Year after year, our customers flock back to the restaurant, so we are pleased to be launching our first-ever loyalty program to better serve our customers delicious lobster rolls, seafood dishes and signature cocktails.”

To prepare for the 2024 season, the boat has undergone some renovations, including new photo opportunities such as a giant lobster claw and an Instagrammable “One in Two Million” lobster wall.
