Those pretty, pampered pooches strutting their stuff through the neighborhood are no more – as of next year, Westminster Dog Show is moving upstate.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, for 2021 the Westminster Kennel Club, organizers of the hugely popular dog show that has been a NYC mid-winter mainstay for more than 100 years, is heading to Lyndhurst, a riverside estate in Tarrytown, New York State.
The main judging competitions will be held on June 12 and 13, with the masters agility championship on Friday, June 11.

The grounds at Lyndhurst have previously hosted a number of dog events – in fact, two have been rescheduled to accommodate the Westminster Show – but we’re going to miss the dogs at Pier 94.

“The wide-open outdoor space at this extraordinary venue allows us to hold a dog show safely while following current social distancing guidelines and public health regulations,” Westminster’s president, Charlton Reynders III, said in a statement.
