When Hell’s Kitchen artist Gywneth Leech watched the construction of a forty story hotel start outside her 13th-floor studio window back in 2015, she managed to overcome “a sense of loss and the desire to flee.” She said: “I made a decision to stay and record the process from the foundation up. It set my work on a new path.”
After documenting the rise of Hudson Yards on oil and canvas, she’s been busy recording the rise of One Vanderbilt on 42nd Street. Her virtual exhibition has just opened. Join us on a tour.

BLOOMING ON TENTH AVENUE
The sea of bright yellow taxi cabs at the Hess Gas Station on 10th Avenue between W44/45th Street has been replaced by construction.
The scaffolding is about to come down to reveal Target (opening on Sunday, October 25) and a condo building of 92 apartments called Bloom on Forty Fifth. It’s said to be a “light-filled residential oasis”. Our image captured from Google Street View in September 2013 confirms the “light-filled” part!
