Ruth and I chatted yesterday afternoon. It was our regular Wednesday meeting to talk about strategy, bigger ideas, and where we are going.
We both agreed that a big challenge we face is finding the time to create in the face of so much consumption. By the time we’ve read other email newsletters, watched Governor Cuomo, and checked social media, our minds are spinning and we have no space for creativity.
Earlier in the day, I’d interviewed Karim Rashid. He’s a world renowned designer – and a Hell’s Kitchen neighbor – who has been channeling his thinking and creativity by writing rather than drawing these last few weeks. He’s a passionate, driven creative who is gravely concerned about our consumption (but an advocate for plastic – the right kind). You can read the interview at w42st.com.

How are you keeping on top of your consumption? Are you finding ways to be creative? All tips gratefully received… And there’s also no shame if you’re sitting on the sofa bingeing Netflix in your pajamas.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO CONSUME SOMETHING…
This is my current guilty pleasure. I don’t know whether it will lead to me being more creative, but it sure is fun. Pick a favorite 80s arcade game here. The one below was my 1981 obsession. What was yours (if you’re old enough to remember)?

TELL A FRIEND
Since the COVID-19 crisis hit, we’ve moved from a monthly print publication to a daily newsletter, as a way of connecting our newly isolated community and bringing, we hope, a ray of hope in the midst of uncertainty and fear. If you’ve enjoyed hearing from us every day, please forward this to a friend and ask them to sign up. We’re stronger together.
STORM’S A-COMIN’
Look out, folks! Storm’s a-coming. We could have heavy rain, high winds – and, wait, the chance of a tornado!? – from 10am until 3pm, so sit tight (you weren’t going anywhere anyway, right?) and make sure you have all your electronic equipment charged in case of a power outage.
