The video released by police, which appears to be filmed on a phone, shows a woman in an orange wig wielding a cinder block to smash through the driver’s door window of the taxi.

The incident happened last Thursday, March 24 at around 10:15am on W37th Street between 9/10th Avenue, just down from Brooklyn Fare.

The video shows the woman walking up to the car with the block and smashing the taxi’s window. She then reaches in through the window before running off towards 10th Avenue, removing her wig along the way.

Police said the taxi driver ha stepped away from the car to go to the bathroom — and returned to find the window smashed and $40 in cash and an iPhone 8 stolen.

  1. The incident description in this article gets a couple of things wrong. Looking at that video and the direction of the cars, she’s running towards 10th Ave, not 9th Ave. You can see the suspect approaching the Brooklyn Fare building at the end of the video, so the parked taxi is not across from Brooklyn Fare but on the same side of 37th as Brooklyn Fare.
