Happy Saturday. This early morning mist is going to hang around until 10am — and then we will be soaring to afternoon temperatures at least in the high 80s (maybe touching the 90s). There’s a heat advisory in place from noon. However, we won’t break any records this weekend — it’s been as high as 99 degrees in May before!

It’s nine years since Mayor Bill de Blasio pledged to ban carriage horses in New York on his first day in office (yesterday, he said he would run for a seat in Congress). This week a video has been circulating of a horse from a Hell’s Kitchen stable apparently being roughly handled in Central Park. We’ve been looking at the story behind that video from both sides of the contentious issue. Read more…

On Thursday, 9th Avenue business owners were hit by new letters from the Department of Transport demanding that bars and restaurants now remove outdoor dining from the side streets. Added to that, over at the Senate, the pols could not deliver on plans to replenish the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF). One-third of local businesses shared in a $137m payout — while two-thirds got nothing. One of the business owners we spoke to was Amália Sarmiento from Arriba Arriba.
