W42ST Daily 5/24/2020
It was 18 months ago that I got out of bed on a Sunday morning and headed to Dough Boy Park to make sure that I noted the passing of 100 years since the First World War. The death of so many should never be forgotten.

I woke this Saturday morning to a text from my daughter, Millie, in the UK. She wanted me to look at a story of the Far Rockaways. I watched, I cried. I wonât forget. Iâm not religious, but âLord have Mercyâ.
This morning, we wake up to the New York Times front page. Weâre approaching 100,000 America deaths from COVID-19. The story behind the front page is worth reading. Their National editor, Marc Lacey says: âI wanted something that people would look back on in 100 years to understand the toll of what weâre living through.â
Lest we forget.

Youâll often find Gary Hershornâs pictures in the W42ST Instagram feed. Gary and I crossed paths in places like Barcelona, Havana, Lillehammer, and Tokyo as sport photographers in the 90s â but didnât become friends until me met in New York. Iâm in awe of his daily toil at dawn and dusk. Gary has continued to show the beauty of New York while we are on pause. See his pictures and read his story at W42ST.com
AN ASKâŚ
The last few months have been hard on all of us â financially, emotionally, physically. One thing weâve come to truly value is the importance of community â âourâ people. Thank you for all your messages of love, support, and laughter â youâve been a lifeline.
Some of you have asked if you can help financially. And, while itâs hard to ask when so many are struggling, if you are in a position to support us, any contribution, no matter how small, will help ensure the future of W42ST.
