W42ST Daily 4/26/2020
We might be staying home. We might have stretched our cooking skills to the limit. But we are Hell’s Kitchen tough. We have businesses running on fumes (but there to serve us every day); we have our neighbors returning to their former roles on the front line at hospitals; we have gangs of realtors scrubbing off the tags from store fronts; and we have volunteers at the soup kitchens. You are all amazing. We’ve got this.
Ruth’s interview with local restaurant owners on Friday really struck a chord with our readers. We were inundated with requests: “I would love if there was a list of restaurants open in the hood.” We listened … and for the last 48 hours we’ve been compiling that list.
We contacted over 200 restaurants, and asked a handful of foodie locals for some insider tips (thx Chris, Elisha, Jenny, Lora, Matt, and Rae). We’ve found that over 60 businesses that are offering pickup/delivery services, and you can now find that list at w42st.com/open. Tell us if we’ve missed any of your favorites.
There were some wonderful surprises in our research. Arriba Arriba just opened on Friday, The Waylon yesterday, and check out the specials at The Gaf (they are all named after their regulars). Many more are coming – Art at St Kilda Coffee will be brewing again from Tuesday (8am-2pm).
Don’t forget, we all have a little more time than usual on our hands. We’re all tempted to use Seamless. Don’t. It’s so bad for small businesses. Look through the list, decide what you want and maybe just pick up the phone. We did it last night – my GF said it was “like the old days”. Do it! These are our neighbors, and Hell’s Kitchen is open. Let’s keep it that way.
SPREAD THE LOVE
We’re all about NOT spreading things around right now. But if you’re enjoying our daily missives – if they’re bringing you a little joy in these dark times and helping you feel connected to your neighbors as social distancing becomes the new normal – tell your friends. They can sign up by clicking on this big yellow blob.
NEW YORK STORIES
W42ST is soooo much about the people that we occasionally forget about our friends with wagging tails. ZZ has raised a paw and asked to tell a pup’s quarantine story. Read it at w42st.com.
