Tragedy struck early Sunday morning when an SUV collided with an ambulance transporting a heart attack patient in Hell’s Kitchen.
According to police, a man in his 50s suffering a heart attack was being rushed to the hospital in an FDNY ambulance at around 4:30am on Sunday. As the ambulance traveled northbound along 10th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, it was struck by a Dodge Durango at W41st Street.
The patient was transferred to a second ambulance and taken to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It is not yet clear whether the crash contributed to his death, police said. The 59-year-old driver of the SUV was taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries. The EMS workers involved in the crash also suffered minor injuries.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. The incident took place at the same junction where a crane caught fire and crashed to the ground back in July.
Congestion pricing saves lives.
Really? You think congestion is contributing to crashes at 4:30AM?
I agree with you Gregg, “congestion pricing saves lives” is just a sound bite, it’s not connected to this situation at all.
