W42ST Daily 6/25/2020

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am NOT a shopper. The thought of browsing shops, trying on clothes, comparing prices — and all those things other people love — leaves me cold.

However, I do delight in our four local shops — Delphinium Home, Domus, Fine & Dandy and November 19.  When their images pop into my social media it brings a big smile to my face.  The last 48 hours have been no exception.

Who couldn’t LOVE these guys at Domus.

Or these guys at Fine & Dandy. We love you, Matt and Enrique!

And Clark at November 19 has paired himself up with a window mannequin for his photo!

Now our friends at Delphinium need a hand — as do so many of our local businesses. Either their Instagram skills are lacking, or they are just swamped with getting back to business in Phase 2.

You can help. Take pictures of businesses you see around Hell’s Kitchen that are open, post them to Instagram with the hashtag #W42ST, and we will do the rest. You can see all that’s happening, with your help, at “Hell’s Kitchen is OPEN 2!”  Happy snapping (and shopping)!

#TBT Gay Bob doll
Complete with plaid shirt, cowboy boots, gold chain necklace, murse, and a single blue earring, Gay Bob was considered the “world’s first gay doll.” Anatomically correct – we have SEEN THE PROOF – and, to modern eyes, a tad clichéd, he was created by inventor Harvey Rosenberg, who described his plastic brainchild as looking like a cross between Paul Newman and Robert Redford.” Open the closet here…

AN APPEAL
The last few months have been hard on all of us – financially, emotionally, physically. One thing we’ve come to truly value is the importance of community – “our” people. Thank you for all your messages of love, support, and laughter – you’ve been a lifeline.

Some of you have asked if you can help financially. And, while it’s hard to ask when so many are struggling, if you are in a position to support us, any contribution, no matter how small, will help ensure the survival of W42ST.
