Last night the Fifth Avenue Association got the holidays underway with sidewalks of oversized lit toys and a fountain featuring animal sculptures, icebergs and 5,000 feet of lights.
The launch of the “Fifth Season” started with a grand opening ceremony at the Pulitzer Fountain in front of The Plaza Hotel, with music from the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and a countdown to the lighting of the fountain.
Along Fifth Avenue from 47th to 60th Street there were toy features — including a mailbox, teddy bear and yellow taxi cab.
New this year is the fountain display with moving polar bears and 24 icebergs, all at the center of a skating rink. City Harvest is the partner for all the activites taking place and visitors will be encouraged to donate to the New York food rescue organization.
