An employee of Food Emporium was killed this afternoon in a tragic accident at the Hell’s Kitchen store. The 39-year-old member of staff was fatally injured by a freight elevator.

Emergency services report that she was found around just after 4pm at the bottom of the elevator shaft inside the store on W43rd Street beneath the Manhattan Plaza building.

The grocery store employee’s family is being informed, and her identity has not been released at this time.

The New York Post spoke to a Food Emporium customer, Jess Mayeur, who said: “I needed to stock up on food for the storm so I came here, then saw the gurney roll into Food Emporium and my heart stopped.”
