This is their newest location for the rapidly expanding taproom that first opened its doors in downtown Brooklyn at DeKalb Market Hall in 2017. Since then, Craft+Carry has steadily grown and now has locations in Chelsea, Gramercy, Murray Hill, St Marks, the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side.

The co-owners, Dieter Seelig, Joshua Friedman, and Brian Stapleton, have previously ventured into the neighborhood. In April 2019, they opened Merchants’ Gate bar within the Turnstyle Underground Market at W57th Street and 8th Avenue. The bar did not survive the pandemic and is now shuttered.

There is a large selection of draft beer.

Stapleton and Seelig are also behind East Village sports bar Finnerty’s and Irish pub Plug Uglies in Gramercy — according to Eater who reported on the Turnstyle project in 2019.

The new bar at 751 9th Avenue between W50/51st Streets will open from 11am-1am Sunday through Wednesday and 11am-2am from Thursday to Saturday.

The space was most recently the GFG Bakery Cafe — the first tenant after many years of being vacant following the closure of The Snug bar in 2014 and the premises was given a major renovation.

“He was a good man who invented beer,” Plato said (according to Craft + Carry) in neon.

“Join us to pick up cold six-packs from the cooler, refill your growler, or just raise a glass,” said the team at the new venue on Instagram.

Craft+Carry says that the brand’s attitude and aesthetic is “for beer lovers, not snobs.” They pride themselves on having Cicerone-certified staff, saying that “customers can expect satisfying personal recommendations.”

There are 24 rotating draft beers on tap.

The new location is spacious and they have added outdoor seating along 9th Avenue.
