Mayor de Blasio has lifted the New York City curfew this morning ‘effective immediately’.
In a tweet just after 7am, he told New Yorkers: “Yesterday and last night we saw the very best of our city. Tomorrow we take the first big step to restart. Keep staying safe. Keep looking out for each other.”
The last New York City curfew was from February to May 1945. America was at war and facing a coal shortage.
This curfew was originally from 11pm to 5am when it was put in place last Monday. It was then changed to start at 8pm on Tuesday. The curfew came after thousands of George Floyd protesters flooded the streets, some clashing with NYPD. The curfew was lifted after last night’s marches continued past the curfew and ended peacefully.
