W42ST Daily 5/13/2020
We asked you last week “when do you think Broadway will return?” Thanks for polling with us – we’ve learnt from Governor Cuomo that it’s about the data! Here are the results.

Broadway disappointed 10% of our optimistic voters yesterday. The Great White Way won’t be back until the Sunday before Labor Day at the earliest. However, those happy feet are still keeping busy. Our friends at Broadway Briefing have just launched Curtain Times, to help find theater events online during the shutdown. Today’s highlight is TedXBroadway giving us a big dose of Just Freakin’ Positivity at 12:30pm with Mark Fisher and Natasha Tsakos.
Broadway’s struggles knock on to our restaurants’ come back plans. It’s a close economic knit. If you look at restaurants on the UES, they are probably 80% resident supported. In Hell’s Kitchen, especially the nearer you are to 8th Avenue, the business income is probably one third local, one third Broadway and one third tourists/business travelers. We all need the lights to come up on our theaters.
The good news is that I am speaking to restaurant folk every day who want to innovate. They want to find ways to close the avenues and streets to give our hole in the wall restaurants and bars the space to let customers social distance, but be sociable. Look at what’s being done in Amsterdam. Can you see these glass pods on 9th Avenue outside Arriba Arriba and Marseille? Anyone know someone who makes little greenhouses?

NEW YORK STORIES
Lady Liberty has been cleaning up on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen – and going viral at the same time. RAD is a New York artist who created these stickers, called Liberty & Disinfectant. The image is becoming an internationally known symbol of New York City fighting COVID-19. Read more at W42ST.com.
LITTLE OL’ WINE DRINKIN’ ME
Well, I’ve been feeling guilty that I’ve not been spending the last two months doing much learning. Yes, I’ve become a reasonable webmaster on WIX and can navigate Mailchimp to publish the newsletter now… but what about personal development?
I’m putting that right tonight by learning from a master. I’m joining Mandy from Ardesia at their Wine Club. I’ve got my bottle of Pinot Noir delivered, and I am tuning in at 7:15pm on Instagram Live to learn more about my favorite tipple. This one is from Alsace – I always thought Pinot Noir was from Burgundy or California. I’m learning already. Come join in! Mandy’s still got some bottles and is open from 3pm.
