We’re kinda disappointed that Andrew Yang chose Brooklyn’s Coney Island as the venue for his announcement to run for Mayor of New York City in 2021 — but we’re glad this Hell’s Kitchen foodie will be in the race.

Last night, Yang was spotted by photojournalist Andy Isaacson on the famous Coney Island boardwalk, filming his announcement to enter the mayoral fray in 2021 with a simple message — “I’m Andrew Yang and I’m running for mayor of New York City. Can you dig it? Can you diiiiig iiiiit.”

All will be revealed whether “Can you dig it?” is a reference to Ice Cube, The Mock Turtles or The Warriors

Last week New York City’s Campaign Finance Board confirmed that Yang — the former Presidential Candidate and Hell’s Kitchen resident — filed paperwork to run for mayor of the city in 2021. He is now listed on the NYCCFB website as a participant in the race, alongside other candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring.

Yang is a married father of two boys, Christopher and Damian — who up until recently attended school in Hell’s Kitchen. During the pandemic, the family has spent time in New Paltz, NY and it is unclear where he will live as he launches his bid to become mayor.

Will his announcement be broadcast this year — or next year? We’ll know in the next 24 hours!
